I bought a new PC 2 weeks ago: HP Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (AMD Sempron LE-1250 processor; 2.20 GHz; RAM 3 GB.), and when the setup person finished setting it up for me, a pop-up box (balloon) appeared in the taskbar saying I had a USB problem. I asked the person to fix it, but he said not to worry about it because all the drivers were all right. (But I do worry about it!) The alert appears each time I restart the computer.
The alert says: 'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.
Jul 22, 2010 The funny thing is, that all outside ports are working properly, all internal except of this one (Port_#0005.Hub_#0001) also. On this board no device is connected, the only usb-device now running is keyboard and mouse.

FYI: I don't know if this makes a difference, but I have an HP deskjet 6127 printer...the setup person could not locate a driver for it, so he found a compatible driver (something like 930?), and the printer works just fine.
------------------------------------------
I've spent the last 2 weeks off and on trying to solve this problem, and only a few minutes ago did I run across the following informaton after I searched 'Driver Version 6.1.7600.16445'...
hXX p://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Driver-update-for-Win7-USB-issue-on-nVidia-chipset-systems-now/m-p/188193
AND IT 'PARTIALLY' STATES:
Driver update for Win7 USB issue on nVidia chipset systems now available
12-17-200904:40 PM
HP has submitted a software update (SoftPaq SP44620) to HP Customer Care containing Microsoft's QFE KB976972 update to resolve USB issues on certain HP consumer desktop systems:
1) System is running Windows 7
Port 0001 Hub 0002
2) System has an nVidia chipset
3) System has 4GB of RAM or more

The update has been submitted to and is in process to appear on the software and driver download page for the affected systems, however here is a direct link to download it now:
Customers who have already downloaded the QFE update from Microsoft's support site do not need to reapply it.

Here is the readme from the update:
Microsoft Host Controller Driver Update
Version: 6.1.7600.16445 Description: Microsoft Host Controller driver update resolves an issue with the system not responding or behaving abnormally when a USB device is connected. Purpose: Critical Category: Operating System - Enhancement and QFEs
-----------------------------------------
The above instructions say that the System has 4GB of RAM, or more...and I only have 3GB, so that confuses me. AND, since I don't know if the above issue really pertains to me, there is no way I'm going to download something of which I am unsure of .
Port_#0001.hub_#0005OK, I know this is lengthy, but I hope I've included enough information for someone to actually help solve my problem. Port_#0001.hub_#0005 Driver
EDIT: UPDATE...I just discovered that I do have the KB976972 update installed ; I missed it the first time I looked somehow; sorry! SO...this means my problem is something else.
